The Savoy Operas have always been a popular choice for amateur musical and operatic societies. They are fun, accessible, performed in English, and most importantly are out of copyright. These timeless operettas bring fun and frivolity to the stage for many and are the perfect first step for anyone wanting to be involved in theatre, whether that be on stage, in the orchestra, or behind the scenes.
Gilbert and Sullivan were one of the first to really utilise the chorus. Whereas previously, the chorus was more a fixture of the background, here they have a more prominent role, often setting the scene and participating in significant plot progress.
With a more important role, comes a more important commitment, and not every modern amateur thespian has the time or understanding to properly prepare a chorus role.
Rehearsal tracks have become a modern solution and will find plenty of them online. Nearly all of these will be MIDI files. This project will aim to provide live piano accompaniment recordings with professional singers for you to listen to and learn from.
